Influence of Embedded Charging Units Characteristics on Long-Term Structural Behavior of E-Roads

The use of Electric Vehicles (EV) seems to be a promising solution achieve sustainable road transport system. Among the contactless dynamic vehicle charging technologies, Charging Units (CUs)—cement concrete box—embedded into pavement favorable option. available scientific papers related structural effects embedding CUs in pavements consider CU as solid box, even if cavity is needed for electrical technologies’ accommodation. This why current research aimed at studying electrified roads (e-road) with different shapes and dimensions. In detail, responses are investigated, first step, adopting Finite Element Model (FEM), and, second long-term performances (fatigue cracking/rutting proneness) evaluated. study divided two phases: theoretical fatigue/rutting assessment, which allows calculate critical load repetitions leading failure, an urban case goals both assessing results computing performance real scale traffic conditions. outcomes demonstrate that can used no significant impacts on performance, laying foundation future upgrading existing networks.
